My first job following graduation was in a glass manufacturing company as a secretary. I met my future husband Floyd there. I was married in 1963 and my daughter Lorry was born the following year. In 1969 my son Drew was born. We lived in our dream home a center hall colonial in the Eastside section of Paterson.
My husband and I bought our first retail business (a wine and spirit shop in Haledon) and then our second in Ho-Ho-Kus. For 25 years we worked in retail. During this time my husband went back to school for his masters in education and I ran the business.
At age 50 I needed a change and we sold our business. With much encouragement from my husband who was now an administrator in a private school I entered college. It was the most exciting time. I met great teachers and lifelong friends. There were many women like myself returning to school. After 1000 hours of internships working with literacy programs I decided to work with the elderly population. I now work at a center in Fair Lawn - I have come full circle.
